It's likely chlorine, its almost always chlorine! Chlorine is a disinfectant used by the water industry and small amounts are added to the public water supply as it leaves the treatment works. Chlorine kills any harmful bacteria present and keeps water safe on it's way to your tap. Unfortunately the closer you are to a water treatment center the stronger the smell and taste of chlorine. Carbon is an extremely porous material that attracts and holds a wide range of harmful contaminants. As the water passes over the positively charged carbon surface, the negative ions of the contaminants are drawn to the surface of the carbon granules. Reverse osmosis, also known as hyperfiltration, is the finest means of filtration available today. It is the most common treatment technology used by premium bottled water companies. It’s perfectly fine for drinking water, even though many complain about the taste of water with high calcium deposits. However, it’s important to know that high levels of hard water can irritate your skin, hair, and wear down clothes. If you are located in a hard water area, we always recommend you install a water softening system.
